What is a Postpartum Doula?
A postpartum doula is a trained professional who offers physical, emotional, and spiritual support to a new mother and the rest of the family. Postpartum Doulas also offer breastfeeding support, light housekeeping, family nurturing, and instruction to Mom and/or oter family members in the care of a newborn.
What are some advantages of having a Postpartum Doula?
Caring for a new life is a tremendous responsibility. New mothers often feel exhausted, anxious and overwhelmed. Skills learned in parenting classes, such as bathing and feeding may be forgotten. Even experienced mothers may find it difficult to manage a household, care for other children, or take care or herself as well as a newborn. Some women just like to have a supportive, nurturing, helper nearby.
